VIENNA, VA, November 10, 2000 - A new alliance in the Christian publishing industry will make it possible for thousands of authors to get their books to market quickly and economically.
Xulon Press, an upstart e-publishing firm based in northern Virginia, announced today it signed an agreement with Lightning Source, Inc., the recognized leader in digital fulfillment and print-on-demand technology. The alliance will result in the most sophisticated e-publishing program available today for Christian writers.
Under the agreement, Xulon Press will offer print-on-demand and e-book services to aspiring and established Christian authors. Authors will simply submit their manuscripts to Xulon Press and, within about 30 days, Xulon will digitize the text, design an attractive book cover, and store the file in Lightning Source's digital library. Books will then be available for print-on-demand, in both hardcover and paperback editions, as well as electronic formats for online viewing. Books published by Xulon Press will be distributed by Ingram and Spring Arbor, and will be offered on Amazon.com and other bookselling web sites.
According to Tom Freiling, president and CEO of Xulon Press, "Digital and print-on-demand technologies give authors extraordinary new opportunities." He noted that 98% of all manuscripts submitted to publishers are rejected. The process is cumbersome and frustrating for many authors. Xulon will bypass traditional publishing, using Lightning Source's technology to help authors get published and distributed. "The days of waiting for your manuscript to get published are over," said Freiling. "Xulon is about accepting, not rejecting, manuscripts."
"This venture by Xulon Press takes advantage of the endless new possibilities in the world of publishing today," said Lightning Source President and CEO Ed Marino. "Only a short time ago this type of solution would not have been practical, but at Lightning with the help of publishers like Xulon, we've helped rewrite the economics of publishing."
Freiling said the agreement with Lightning Source gives Xulon almost unlimited capacities. "We're set to publish thousands of titles," he said, "capable of becoming one of CBA's largest publishers."
