MILTON KEYNES, UK – Lightning Source Inc., the leading provider of
demand-based book manufacturing and distribution solutions to the book
industry, today announced that Lightning Source UK is moving to a newer,
larger facility to accommodate its rapid expansion.
“Publishers are seeing phenomenal success integrating Lightning Source
print on demand into their traditional supply chain models,” said J. Kirby Best,
President and CEO of Lightning Source Inc. “The tremendous growth in the
number of publishers capitalizing upon the benefits that high quality one-book-at-
a-time print and distribution provides is thrilling to see.”
Mr Best continued, “The growth Lightning Source is experiencing is a
testament to the publishers that use solid proven solutions and leading
technology to their advantage. Lightning Source has the scale, quality, systems
and reliability to get the job done. We are in the United Kingdom to stay, and are
thrilled to not only expand our operation, but build upon the wonderful
achievements our publisher partners are realizing.”
Lightning Source has acquired Chapter House, an 88,000 square foot,
modern facility in Milton Keynes, for its new location. The new building offers a
production and distribution area of approximately 60,000 square feet compared
to 12,000 square feet of production space in the current location.
The Lightning Source UK division will maintain full production at current
service levels during the move into the new building, which is expected to be
completed this summer.
“Print on demand has become an increasingly important part of the UK
book trade supply chain,” said David Taylor, Managing Director of Lightning
Source UK, and Senior Vice President of Global Sales. “Our unsurpassed level
of excellent service and the quality and breadth of product we offer are key
drivers in the growth we are enjoying in global markets.
“Our new location is not only about giving us the space we need for our
continued growth – it’s about allowing our UK operations to extend our menu of services and products. We’re excited about plans for new options for our
customers including additional manufacturing lines for hardcover books,
duplicating our United States color book capability in the United Kingdom,
extending the range of books produced and enhancing shipping and distribution
services for the publishers we serve,” Mr. Taylor added.
The expansion of the Lightning Source United Kingdom location comes on
the heels of the opening of Lightning’s third facility in Allentown, Pennsylvania,
USA in 2007. A grand opening celebration will be held to commemorate the
expansion of the United Kingdom office at a date to be determined.
